I would like to show my ad in the 'Premium Ads' list on a start page. What should I do?


You should go to the 3rd step called 'Activation + Premium' in the ad edit mode or click 'My Ads' menu and then click a link 'Activation + Premium' near your ad. 'My ads' menu item is shown for logged in users.


How do I post an advert?

To post an ad simply click on the Green + Post New Classified button that can be found at the top of any page.

I can't find my advert. What's happened?

If you can't find your ad on the site then first log in to your Sokoniafrica.com account:

Go to the Sokoniafrica.com homepage, click on Login at the top right hand section of your screen
Enter your email address and your password into the relevant sections
In your Sokoniafrica.com account you will see the status of your Sokoniafrica.com advert.

If this search doesn't locate your advert, then you have been unsuccessful in posting your ad.  Please follow our guide to posting a Sokoniafrica.com advert.

If you can see that your advert is live, search on our site to find it easily:

Go to the Sokoniafrica.com homepage
Enter your advert reference number into the search box. This can be found in the confirmation email sent to when you posted your advert.
Click search

Reasons why your ad may not yet be live

• Your advert is still being processed
If you recently posted or edited your advert it can take anywhere from a few seconds to 12 hours for an advert to go through the system and appear online.   Give it a few hours just in case there is a delay in the system.  When you advert goes live the status will show as 'Live'.

• Your advert has expired
If you posted your advert some time ago or for an event that has passed, your advert may have expired.  Learn more about advert expiration.

• Your advert has been temporarily suspended or removed
Learn more about when Sokoniafrica.com would remove an advert.  

Why has my advert been removed or deleted?

If your ad breaches Sokoniafrica.com Posting Rules, our Terms and Conditions or is against the spirit of the Sokoniafrica.com site then we will remove your advert.

In most cases when we remove an ad we will send an email explaining why.   Make sure you don’t miss out on emails from us by checking your junk-mail folder. Our emails normally come from info@sokoniafrica.com or support@sokoniafrica.com.

If you have received an email from us, but you are still unsure about why your advert was removed, take a look at our General Posting Rules and Category Specific Posting Rules under our posting your advert.  If you still have questions contact Sokoniafrica.com Customer Support and we will be happy to help.

If you haven't received an email from us saying we have removed your advert then it may be that your advert has not been removed but has either been temporarily suspended or perhaps you just can't find your advert.

Temporarily suspended adverts


Adverts that are reported to us or have been identified by our automated system as potentially suspicious can sometimes be temporarily removed from the site while we check them.  As long as we find that the advert hasn’t broken any of the Sokoniafrica.com Posting Rules or Terms and Conditions it should be back up again shortly.

Check back after a couple of hours to see if this is the case for your advert.

Why is my advert still processing?

The status 'processing' means that your advert is being automatically processed by the Sokoniafrica.com system which includes going through automated filters designed to prevent suspicious activity.

If you recently posted or edited your advert and it is "processing" give it at least 4 hours and you should find the advert status changes to "Live" so that your advert is appearing on the site.

Most adverts take seconds to be processed but occasionally it can take 8 hours and in very rare circumstances up to 12 hours.  We advise that if your advert has been processing for less than 4 hours then please be patient, our staff are unable to push your advert through our automated system.

If your advert is rejected by the system or we have removed it, this is because your advert is breaking one of Sokoniafrica.com Posting Rules.  We will send you an email explaining why.

Why do you charge for certain adverts?


In order to maintain the quality of responses expected from Sokoniafrica.com, we need to continue to invest in improvements to the site, national TV advertising, online marketing and more.

The fees we’ve introduced only apply to companies, landlords and others who post in our Jobs, Housing and Business Services categories.  

The money will go straight into making the site better for everyone. We think it’s fairer this way.

I've been the victim of a scam. What should I do?


We have some top warning signs, but they aren't exclusive.  If you feel that you have been the victim of a scam, then you must take immediate action.

You can choose to report it to Sokoniafrica.com.  We can take a look for you and give you advice on how to proceed.  We will also take internal action to protect other Sokoniafrica.com customers.

If you believe you have been defrauded this is very serious and we encourage you to report it to the police.

I've received a suspicious response to my advert. What should I do?


If you aren’t sure whether a reply you’ve received is dodgy and are in doubt don't proceed any further with someone who seems suspicious.

If you’ve found something suspicious or if you just want our advice, report it to us so we can have a look and take any appropriate action.

I want a job - can you please help?

Everyday thousands of new jobs get posted in the Jobs listings.  Here are some tips to help you find the job for you.

1. Explore the list of job categories
There is a long list of Job categories on Sokoniafrica.com which each hold a range of possible jobs.  Take a good look through the list of categories and see what opportunities you can find.  You might find your skills match different jobs you haven't considered before.

2. Consider what areas of the Africa (or Worldwide) you would be interested to work in

If you are flexible on location then you can search for jobs across the Africa and see a much larger potential pool of jobs.  If you have more specific locations, then you can drill down using the list of locations on the left handside of the listings page, or define your location in the search box at the top of the page.

3. When replying to job adverts follow our top tips for job applicants

Your reply to an advert is your first impression so make it a great one!

4. Don't miss out on new job adverts
Everyday thousands of new job adverts get posted on the site so check back regularly.  You can even sign-up for email alerts so that we can let you know as soon as an advert is posted in the job categories you are interested in.


What do the statuses in 'Manage your advert' mean?


From the time you post your advert on Sokoniafrica.com to the time when the advert shows live on our site, there are various stages your advert could go through.

Here's a description of what these statuses mean:-

Live
Your advert is live on the Sokoniafrica.com website.

Featured
Your advert is live on Sokoniafrica.com in the Featured Advert section and standard listings.  

Needs editing
Your advert needs to be edited to meet our posting rules before it can appear on the site. You'll be sent an email on what steps to take next.

On hold
Your advert is being checked to see if it meets the posting rules for posting adverts. If all is well, it should be on the site within a few hours.

Processing
Your advert is being processed by our system and undergoing some automated checks.   Most adverts are processed and appear live on the site within seconds but it can take up to 4 hours and even in rare cases up to 12 hours.  If you recently posted or edited your advert and it shows the status "processing" please be patient and you should find the status changed to "Live".

Removed
Your advert has been removed from the site because it breaks posting rules. You'll be sent an email explaining why.

Deleted
You've chosen to remove your advert from results. If you’d like to bring it back in results, you can reactivate it within a limited time.  Please check our posting rules before reactivating to ensure that we won’t remove your advert again.

Expired
Your advert has reached the end of its duration.

Awaiting payment
You need to pay for this advert before it can appear on the site. To pay, edit your advert and follow the steps to complete payment.

Awaiting activation
You need to activate this advert before it appears on the site. Check your email for the activation link (it may be in your junk folder).

What is my advert reference number?

Every advert has a unique advert reference number that is a few digits long.   When you post your advert you will receive an email from us confirming the advert reference number.   This number is also displayed at the bottom of every advert.  

You will need this number for any contact with our Customer Services Team.  Always note your email address and the password you used to create your account with us, so that you can edit or delete your advert in the future, or advert more new adverts.

This unique advert reference number also gives you a quick way to view your advert on the site by entering it into the search box on the homepage.

If you don't have a copy of the email confirmation from us with your advert reference number, then simply log into your account and view your ad from there.
